Vocabulary from meeting roles of Toastmasters

 

스피치 클럽인 토스트마스터즈에 가입하고, 매 미팅마다 맡을 수 있는 여러가지 역할이 있는데 그 역할에 관한 설명이 담긴 pdf 를 받았어요. 읽다보니 헷갈리거나 잘 모르겠는 단어나 숙어를 간략하게 정리 하려구요 :)

Timer ( 스피치 클럽에서 스피치하는 사람들 시간을 재는 역할입니다!)

The Timer's timing, timing cards, and reports help contribute to the efficient running of the
meeting. It is his or her job to time all functions of the meeting and report these times back to
the members when called upon to do so. At the start of the meeting when called upon to
describe the functions of a timer you can respond (from your place) by simply saying they are to
help members learn how to be timely and to use their given time most effectively.

Using the Timing Lights:
For Table Topics, the green light is displayed after 1 minute has elapsed, the amber light at 1.5
minutes, the red light at 2 minutes, and the flashing red light at 2.5 minutes.

Time (v.)  동사로 타임을 써본 적이 있던가? 한번도 없는데 신기하닷. 

- Decide that something will happen at a particular time

- Arrange something so that it happens at the best possible time

ex) If you time your departure carefully, you should be able to miss the worst of the traffic.

타이머의 역할은 미팅에서의 모든 역할(매번 미팅 때 멤버마다 역할이 정해져있어요)들의 시간을 재고 또는 정하고,~ 

 

Call on/upon something (phrasal verb)

- ask formally for someone to do something

- visit someone / especially to sell them something

ex) I should now like to call upon the finance director to take you through the results.

 

It is his or her job to report these times back to the members when called upon to do so. 

타이머의 역할은 멤버들에게(발표한 사람들+진행자까지) 기록한 시간을 알려줍니다 (when  알려주라고 누군가 요청할때)

 

 

elapse(v.) 이 단어는 정말 한 번쯤 쓰고싶닷 

- time goes past

ex) Four years had elapsed since he left college and still he hadn't found a job.
